October 24 through November 14
A 4-week worship series on our relationship with our stuff.
October 24 - Success:Redefined (1 Timothy 6:2-10
)

I heard a story the other day about a couple in their 70's who were returning to work because their nest-egg had been reduced significantly in recent years. Our nation's economic woes are causing many of us to re-think what it means to be successful. There must be more to life than the right house, the right car, the right vacation, the right job, the right toys. It certainly doesn't feel like the one with the most stuff is really winning anything. God tells us that our job is not to acquire and consume, but rather to live for Him.
October 31 - Using Our Gifts Wisely (Luke 15:11-20
)
Jesus tells a story about a young man who shockingly asks his dad for his share of the inheritance now. This would have been a substantial amount of money that should have helped the younger son get a good start out on his own. Instead, Jesus says, "undisciplined and dissipated, he wasted everything he had" (The Message Bible). It seems to be universally true that the more we have, the less careful we become. We need to focus on wisely using the gifts that God has blessed us with.

So many of us are discontented. In private moments we would admit how we would like to change our job, our car, our address, our retirement savings, and more. In this passage the Apostle Paul, whose life was far more difficult than ours, writes about how he has learned to be content regardless of his circumstances. John Wesley once wrote a prayer where he says, "Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, / exalted for thee or brought low for thee. / Let me be full, let me be empty. / Let me have all things, let me have nothing." We need that kind of contentment. Explore with us how Paul in the first century, Wesley in the eighteenth, and us today could experience contentment.
November 14 - Extravagant Generosity (Mark 12:41-44
)
Jesus makes some surprising statements as he watches the Temple collection being received. Generosity before God is not about how much we give, but the trust in God's continued provision that our giving demonstrates. May we learn to live generously.
